Considering the good price of the Canon EF 300mm F/4L IS USM lens, it probably qualifies as the best lens in its class. It is relatively lightweight and easy to handle with great built quality. The 300mm f/4L IS is ideal for taking fast and impressive photos, including wildlife, birds and sports.
Images produced by this lens, appear vivid with great contrast at a range of settings. If resolution, contrast, color, great bokeh and sharpness is what you are after, the 300mm f/4L IS lens is the one for you. Sharpness is at its best when the lens is stopped down to f/8.

The Image Stabilization of the Canon EF 300mm F/4L IS USM lens is nothing short of amazing, but be sure to turn it off when you are using a tripod as it can reduce image quality. The noise of the IS kicking in is however quite noticeable.
Autofocus is quick, quiet and accurate, so if you do experience some trouble with autofocus you should check the camera settings to see if you are in single shot mode, as the AI focus modes yield different behavior.

The Canon EF 300mm f/4 L IS USM lens works great with the 1.4x teleconverter. Taking the 300mm and converting it to 420mm gives you serious reach for less than $300. Image Stabilization and the Autofocus works great with the 1.4x teleconverter, but you might notice the focus seems to take a bit longer. Combined with the 1.4x teleconverter, your F4 lens is converted to a F5.6 lens.
When using the 2.0x teleconverter with the Canon EF 300mm f/4 L IS, you get unbelievable range that could only be achieved with a 600mm prime, and at big price tag. The Image Stabilization works well with the 2.0x but the option for Autofocus falls away, which means you will have to manually focus all your shots. Combined with the 2.0x teleconverter, your F4 lens will be converted to F8.
