The “L” glass (Canon’s professional line of lenses) is said to be the best lenses on the market by far, and the Canon EF 24-70mm F/2.8L USM Lens is considered by some photographers to be the best all-around lens manufactured by Canon.

The heavy duty Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM Lens is professionally and strongly built from hard plastic with rigid rubber on the focusing and zoom rings, including dust and moisture proofing. The EF mount (for the Canon EOS System) which comes with this lens is a perfect fit and once mounted on the camera it feels like it was built with the camera.

While the Canon EF 24-70mm F/2.8L USM Lens might be a bit heavy and pricey (with a big camera the overall weight would be relatively heavy) it is not a big deal when you see the great results achieved.

The Canon EF 24-70mm F/2.8L USM Lens produces razor sharp images with excellent contrast, and startling color and saturation. At F/2.8 across the zoom range a photographer using this lens is capable of shooting in all but the dimmest of lighting conditions. At this aperture great depth of field effects can also be achieved, which is especially useful in wedding and portrait shooting. This lens is amazingly sharp wide open and only gets better when stopping down. The USM (Ultrasonic Motor) focus is ultra responsive, allowing full-time manual focusing. The focal length range from 24mm to 70mm is a good range for most everyday purposes.

This lens is so versatile that it can be used for portrait, wedding, landscape, sport, and any other photography that doesn’t require extreme telephoto. The constant f/2.8 aperture of the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM Lens is great for shooting indoors and produces a very nice bokeh (defocused background) when shooting portraits.

The only feature one might miss in this lens is Image Stabilization, but many photographers see this feature as unnecessary because of its speed (wide aperture). The EF 24-70mm lens is also very popular in portrait photography in which tripods are often used which makes IS obsolete. Overall the Canon EF 24-70mm F/2.8L USM Lens is an amazing lens for most purposes and for any situation.

I recently purchased the Canon EF 24-70mm F2.8L and couldn’t be happier!! AWESOME LENSE!! It has replaced the EF 135mm F2L as my favorite. Everything is the above review is true!! Razor sharp. Very nice bokeh. Gorgeous color. Lets tons of light in. Buy this lense!!

Do you think it is good foi a XSi? 24mm is not to wide for cropframe cameras, but I also have a 18-55mm.

Hi Otavio,

Yes the XSi’s APS-C sensor will turn the 24-70mm into a 38,4-112mm, but it shouldn’t be a problem because if you need anything wider than 38mm, you can fall back on the 18-55mm. The 24-70mm is really a great lens and you should be pleased with it’s quality.

If you intend to buy it from Amazon, you better be quick - I see they only have 1 left in stock -see here.

Regards,
Jaco
